I'm not sure how many of you are keeping up with me on facebook, so I wanted to post tonight by way of an update.
As you've probably noticed, I'm really keen for this blog to become somewhere that's more than just my journey and experience, rather that it would be somewhere we can all share experiences, and help and support each other along the way. Two readers, CiarĂ¡n and Angela, contacted me looking to share their stories, and I'm absolutely thrilled that they did. Every time someone takes this step, it means we're getting that little bit closer to eliminating the stigma around mental illness. Please, please, if you haven't already done so, take the time to go and have a read of what they have to say here. I think we're all going to be really pleasantly surprised to find that our experiences are not all that different, that depression feels the same no matter what our age, sex, marital status, bank balance, nationality (I could go on but you get where I'm at!) Bottom line is it doesn't discriminate. So why should we??
If anyone else would like to share, or comment on anything I've written in private, please feel free to contact me at sunnyscattered@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!Labels: depression, discrimination, experience, mental illness, stigma
